For the sixth consecutive summer, the Middlesex Alumni Association supported a handful of recent graduates as they embarked upon various internship opportunities across the country and the world. The Summer Internship Stipend Program is designed to assist alumni with the various expenses that are often associated with taking part in an unpaid summer internship. Costs such as travel, housing, and meals can often prove challenging and in some cases may be an impediment to accepting an unpaid internship. In order to assist with making these valuable internship experiences possible, the Middlesex Alumni Association has been supporting recent alumni through funds raised at their Gala Auction.
This summer, the Alumni Association supported an interesting array of opportunities for some terrific young alumni. Marcia Frimpong ’11 interned at the Harvard Medical School/Brigham & Women’s Hospital Psychiatry Neuroimaging Lab. “This internship gave me the opportunity to put into practice some of the things I’d learned in the classroom while learning new things as well,” said Marcia. Caitlin Conlon ’11 traveled to Madrid, Spain and interned with Salud por Derecho, a health organization that specializes in HIV and AIDS treatment. “This experience in the work force was invaluable and I am grateful I had the opportunity to develop more skills, specifically regarding research,” said Caitlin, who has decided to minor in public health at Williams as a result of her internship. Caitlin Highland ’10 had an internship with the National Women’s Political Caucus in Washington, DC. She reported that her internship “helped me grow and explore my ambitions, while teaching me the skills I need for careers I hope to pursue.” Vivian Liu ’12 interned at Human Rights Watch in New York which she said was “an incredible experience that motivated me to think deeply about my professional interests.” Vivian also noted that “I absolutely would not have been able to pursue this opportunity without the Middlesex Alumni Association.” Chelsea Tweneboah ’11 spent the summer at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital in Cape Coast, Ghana, saying “I learned a significant amount that I thought I would have to wait many years to learn.” Chelsea also reported “this experience will stay with me forever and many of my future endeavors will be based on it.”
The Middlesex Alumni Association is proud to have supported these wonderful opportunities.
